Shooting for Accuracy is as Easy as 1...2...3...4

One of our favorite shooting for accuracy drills is also one of the most simple.  Just grab a bucket of balls and go out back or to your local field.  Our objective as shooters is to put the ball in the net behind the goalie - the goalie who, most of the uvatime, is standing in the center of the goal.  In order to meet our objective, we need to put the ball in the corners away from the goalie.

We start by assigning each corner a number.  Top Left = 1; Top Right = 2; Bottom Left = 3; and Bottom Right = 4.  Ideally we will have a feeder or a coach who will pass to us or lob several passes to us from one knee, each time calling out a different number.  Start off 5-10 yards from the cage, and gradually increase the distance while trying to maintain accuracy.

Next we want to practice this on the run so receive the pass a few yards outside the box, make one hard dodge and shoot to wherever the feeder calls.  Or, if working on your own, come up with a pattern and try to be as consistent as possible.

Lastly, we can work on our inside finishing by selecting two numbers: faking to the first number and finishing to the second number.  As a general rule, your scoring % will be much higher if you change planes.  That is, fake high and shoot low and vice versa.

Bottom line: the more shots you take, the better shooter you become.  Hopefully this will give you some ideas on ways to become more accurate.

Fire at will.
