 Conditioning a New Stick

There’s nothing like a new lacrosse stick to start off the season right!  Making sure it is ready for optimum performance is key.  Although factory strung heads get the job done, they are more of a template from which to work with.  Here are some tips for conditioning your new stick.

Take a Shower: New mesh is hard and waxy and if unconditioned can affect throwing and cradling.  A good way to fix this problem is to take your stick in the shower with you.  Put the head of the stick under the direct stream of water for a few minutes letting it thoroughly soak through.  Then pat it dry with a towel until damp.  Once damp take any kind of shaving cream and rub it throughout the stringing of your stick, and rinse once again.  For best results let the head drip dry and keep a ball in your stick create the optimal pocket.

Use Your Stick: One of the best ways to condition a stick is to practice with it.  Play pass with a friend or wall ball to make your mesh soft and your pocket bigger.

A well taken care of lacrosse stick can make all the difference in the world!
